A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome:

Advanced Technology Environmental and Energy Center (ATEEC):

ATEEC was established in 1994 as a National Science Foundation Advanced Technology Education (ATE) Center of Excellence to advance environmental and energy technology education through curriculum development, professional development, and program improvement in the nation’s community colleges and secondary schools. The Eastern Iowa Community College District is the sponsoring institution for ATEEC, and ATEEC is located at EICCD’s Scott Community College. Other partners in ATEEC include: Partnership for Environmental Technology Education (PETE), hazardous Materials Training and Research Institute (HMTRI), Nahant Marsh Education Center, University of Northern Iowa (UNI), and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL).
ATEEC is a national center with a mission of “the advancement of environmental and energy technology education through curriculum, professional, and program development and improvement.”, and a quality vision to “foster a network of educational communities, supported through public and private partnerships, that ensures human health, safety, and global sustainability.” The goals of ATEEC are to:
• Strengthen science, math, and technical curriculum and instructional materials supporting environmental and energy technology education
• Strengthen the nation’s environmental and energy technical programs by providing professional development opportunities for faculty of community colleges and high schools
• Strengthen advanced technology environmental and energy education by providing support services for program improvement
ATEEC’s current projects encompass professional, program, instruction, and resource development, and include:
• ATEEC Fellows Institute
• Sustainable Energy Education and Training (SEET) Technology Workshops
• Tribal Fellows Institute Program
• Agriculture-Based Renewable and Sustainable Energy, Study-Abroad Program
• National Energy Technician Summit
• Regional Energy Conversation Forums
• Defining Environmental Technology
• Defining Energy Technologies & Services
• Best Practices Guide for Environmental and Energy Programs Development.

ATEEC provides instructional services for educational and corporate training clients, including instructional design, facilitation, evaluation, and training support. ATEEC Resources include many Environmental and Energy products and an electronic Environmental Resources Library (eERL).

EICCD believes that as a comprehensive national resource on environmental and energy topics for students, professional development, and workforce support, an Innovation Credit is justified.
