A brief description of the program:
EICCD offers an annual Wilderness Experience class, with the following course description:
Provides the student with a living laboratory experience in a natural wilderness area to study biology, ecology, geology and related environmental conservation problems. The student will develop an appreciation of the wilderness environment and some basic skills of canoeing, water safety, camping, fishing, wilderness survival, map reading and the use of a compass.
During the last 3 years, students have had the opportunity to go to such places as the Boundary Waters Canoe Area in Northern Minnesota, the Current River in Missouri, and the Buffalo River in Arkansas.
In addition, EICCD manages the Eco-Education at Nahant Marsh - oneof the largest urban wetlands on the Upper Mississippi River. Nahant programs over the last 3 years include hiking, bird-watching, canoeing/kayaking, nature survival and edible wilds courses, to name a few. These were offerings for the general public as well as EICCD and other area institution students.
