Does the institution hold major events related to sustainability, such as conferences, speaker series, or symposia, that have students as the intended audience?:
Yes

A brief description of the event(s):

EICCD has held annual Sustainability Retreats since our sustainability Initiative began, and students are invited to attend this event. The past three retreats have been on Nov 16, 2007, Oct 24, 2008, and Oct 30, 2009 (FY2010). During the retreat, action projects and strategies are developed, successes are discussed, and open discussion on sustainability-related topics occurs.

EICCD has organized and participated in two Sustainability Symposiums - one in April 2009 and one in March 2011 - along with other local higher education institutions. Students are invited to these events, and may give presentations on sustainability efforts at their institution. Guest speakers and breakout sessions also take place. The 2011 Symposium included keynote speaker Craig Scott Alternose, founder and executive director of the Better Future Project.

During March 2010, EICCD and Friends of nahant Marsh partnered to bring Kenny Salwey, the last river rat, to EICCD. Students from area institutions were invited to meet with Kenny and to view the documentary movie of his life. Each area institution was provided with tickets so that students could attend the event at no cost.
