Previous calculation of sequestration that evaluated tree cover in Arboretum and forested portion of Athletic Complex using i-Tree’s Canopy tool.
Composting data was gathered from tonnage of leaves Facilities moved to composting location. The average weight (lbs.) per truckload and number of truckloads were tracked then converted to tons.

End date | June 30, 2021 | June 30, 2014 |
A brief description of when and why the GHG emissions baseline was adopted:
The performance year uses the most current GHG data available for Fiscal Year 2021. The baseline year, fiscal year 2014, was the previous performance year used in our 2016 STARS submission; it was selected as the 2019 submission baseline so we can track our progress.

A brief description of the institution’s GHG emissions reduction initiatives:
Updated HVAC controls in Webb Hall classrooms.
Shafer Hall was put on it own condensing boilers, which are much more efficient than the previously-used South Heat plant boilers. We are planning on converting hot water and heating systems in our three largest residence halls (Nutmeg, Laurel, and Constitution) to condensing boilers and taking them off our main boiler plant. We will continue to do retro-commissioning on existing buildings, with the Gelsi-Young Building currently in progress.
Fine Arts retro commissioning was also completed in August 2020.
We also continue to upgrade lighting, switching from fluorescent to LED lighting.

Data source(s) and notes about the submission:
This information was completed using information from the 2021 Greenhouse Gas Inventory for Fiscal Year 2021, submitted in May 2022.
SIMAP and Second Nature Public Reporting Platform: https://unhsimap.org/public/institution/122
Gross Scope 2 GHG emissions from imported electricity is listed as 0.0 Metric Tons of CO2 Equivalent because Eastern's electricity is 100% green (see OP-6 Clean and Renewable Energy for more information).
Gross Scope 2 emissions for imported thermal energy is listed as 0.0 Metric Tons of CO2 Equivalent because Eastern does not import thermal energy.
Next submission: use FY21 data (this year's numbers), as these reflect the most current/updated data and methods and will account for the data being corrected and refined over time. FY20 should not be used as a baseline because it was an anomalous year for operations and students on campus and does not reflect normal operations.
