Sustainable Energy Science

A brief description of the undergraduate degree program:

Sustainable Energy Science (minor and "concentration" (i.e., similar to a "major"). Formally, the Sustainable Energy Science concentration is within the Environmental Earth Science major. (See: https://www.easternct.edu/environmental-earth-science/index.html and click on "Programs of Study".)

The Environmental Earth Science Department offers students a Sustainable Energy Science concentration within the EES major and a separate Sustainable Energy Studies minor.

The Sustainable Energy Science concentration and related minor prepares students for careers in the new clean energy economy as climate change, sustainability and clean energy initiatives return to the public forefront. EES students are thus trained to be leaders in energy policy, energy science and the energy economy.

Sustainable Energy Studies

A brief description of the undergraduate minor or concentration:

The use of fossil fuels for energy, particularly coal, is rapidly diminishing and being replaced with an economy based on renewable energy technologies such as hydroelectric, solar, and wind energy. Sustainable Energy Studies is the study of this transition through the perspectives of the natural sciences and the social sciences. Students who minor in Sustainable Energy Studies will be prepared to work as energy policy specialists in government, industry, and education.
The objectives of the minor in Sustainable Energy Studies are:
1. To introduce students to the emerging field of sustainable energy studies.
2. To prepare students for post-graduate employment involving energy policy.
3. To insure that science students understand the social and economic implications of energy technology.
4. To insure that social science students comprehend the technological and scientific basis of energy policy.
5. To prepare educators to teach about energy science and energy policy.
