A brief description of the programs sponsored by the institution to support under-represented groups within the student body:
The Office of Equity and Diversity provides and monitors Diversity Incentive Scholarships to under-represented students. It also sponsors and mentors the following programs. 1.) Quest is a support program established for entering students. This program is promoted during the orientation programs held throughout spring and summer. The Quest Program continues into the semester with monthly meetings. It offers help in acclimating to campus life; it offers opportunities for Quest students to meet other students, faculty, staff, administration and community members. It is offered to underrepresented students as a transition into Pre-View, the campus-wide program for entering undergraduates at the beginning of the academic year. 2.) MIMICX is a new program on campus. MIMICX stands for Man Initiating Mentoring in College Excellence. The purpose of this program is to develop a habit of studying in entering male freshmen from underrepresented groups. In addition, the students of MIMICX participate as a group in a community service project. The goal of this program is to help the student maintain a 2.5 GPA or higher and pass at least 24 credit hours in the academic year. In its second year it will recruit additional personnel to assist in the study hall, involve the students more with local Alumni and open the program to include sophomores.

Black Faculty and Staff Association is a support organization comprised of ETSU faculty and Staff and is a forum and gathering opportunity to discuss concerns. It allows discussion of professional development and matters of tenure. The association sponsors an annual banquet, entertainment and recognition component. International Visiting Scholars Program for Faculty Faculty Senate offers a means of systematic communication of important matters relating to the administration and faculty. The Office of Equity and Diversity monitors the Access and Diversity funds for faculty development with development activities that support tenure and promotion.

Black Faculty and Staff Association is a support organization comprised of ETSU faculty and Staff and is a forum and gathering opportunity to discuss concerns. It allows discussion of professional development and matters of tenure. The association sponsors an annual banquet, entertainment and recognition component. Staff Senate provides an open forum for issues concerning staff employed by this institution and the university community. The Office of Equity and Diversity monitors the Access and Diversity funds for staff development for promotion.
