A brief description of the method(s) used to gather data about student commuting:

5,047 students lived on campus during Fall 2022 and were presumed to be walkers. We used the same estimated percentages that were reported in SIMAP to determine GHG emissions associated with student commuter travel. The total percentage was based on the results of a student commuting survey completed in spring 2018, which found that approximately 8% of students bike, 45% walk, 1% carpool, and 18% ride ECU Transit buses. Due to the fact that approximately 5,000 students are taking online only classes, we lowered the percentage of single-occupancy vehicle commuters to 16% and public transport to 10%.

Has the institution gathered data about employee commuting behavior?:
Yes

Total percentage of employees that use more sustainable commuting options as their primary mode of transportation:
66

A brief description of the method(s) used to gather data about employee commuting:

For Fiscal Year 2022, we used the same estimated percentages that were reported in SIMAP to determine GHG emissions associated with employee commuter travel. The total percentage was based on the assumption that, other than the 3,613 parking permits (~50%) issued to faculty and staff, the remaining employees either teleworked (~20%) or commuted using more sustainable commuting options such as walking, biking, carpooling, or taking the bus.

Percentage of students and employees that use the following as their primary mode of transportation:
