The Mission of the City of Greenville Environmental Advisory Commission is to recommend matters of environmental concern and serve as technical advisor to the Greenville City Council. The University Sustainability Manager serves as a non-voting representative of East Carolina University on this Commission. To date, the Sustainability Manager has been very active with this group, presenting findings from the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions Inventory and assisting with advocating for emissions tracking and reductions for the City of Greenville.

The Mission of the City of Greenville Bicycle and Pedestrian Commission (BAPC) is to advance Greenville as a bicycle and pedestrian friendly community, to encourage bicycling and walking among its citizens and visitors, and to provide advice and recommendations to the Greenville City Council on questions related to bicycle and pedestrian issues. The University Sustainability Manager was appointed by the Mayor of Greenville to serve as a voting member on this Commission and currently serves as Chair of the BAPC. To date, the Sustainability Manager has attended monthly meetings of this Commission as well as assisted in conducting a bicycle and pedestrian survey and setting goals for the Commission's activities since 2016.

Love A Sea Turtle (LAST) is dedicated to marine and ocean conservation awareness by engaging students in leadership development and environmental stewardship, inspiring others to get involved in year-round service projects and conservation activities, and providing nature-based programs for under-served youth. The University Sustainability Manager serves on the Executive Board for LAST and works as a partner with them on several local initiatives both on and off campus.
Youth leaders initiate, create and lead projects and programs they are passionate about to create positive change including:
- River Guardians water monitoring program
- Paint The Drain storm water awareness and storm drain stencil program
- The Green Team spotlights environmentally conscious businesses and youth that are helping to protect and preserve our community and planet.
- Plastic Free NC creates awareness to help reduce, remove and provide alternatives to single use plastics.
- cycLAST youth cycling program
- The Floating Island project utilizes recycled materials to create filtering islands and increase natural habitats.
- Community Garden and Orchard, Food Distribution and Nutrition Education program
- Keep Your Bottom Clean marine debris awareness program
- Stow It-Don't Throw It monofilament recycling project
- Upstream Downstream Connection summer leadership programs
