A brief description of how sustainability is included prominently in new student orientation :

Fact sheets about sustainability on campus are included in the orientation folders that are given to all entering freshman and transfer students. The orientation page of the Duquesne website contains links to the incoming freshmen student and transfer/graduate student guide to living on-campus, both of which contain information about sustainable dining options offered by the university. It was also planned for the Center for Environmental Research and Education to have their own table during orientation where students can come to learn more information about sustainability on campus and ways to get involved. Unfortunately, COVID-19 prevented orientation from being run as normal, but these plans are set to take effect at next year's orientation. Additionally, students that are entering the Environmental Studies/Science undergraduate and graduate programs learn about their courses which include sustainability on campus.

Data for the number of students that attended orientation were unavailable for this year. Therefore, our calculations assumed that 90% of the 1,231 full-time entering freshman, as well as 25% of the 236 transfer students attended orientation. For graduate students, we only accounted for the 4 students entering programs in the Center for Environmental Research and Education. Data regarding number of new freshman, transfer and graduate students incoming during 2021 was obtained from the 2021-2022 Duquesne University fact book.
