As part of its responsible environmental stewardship efforts, Duquesne has implemented a selection process that limits the VOC levels of the cleaning products, paints and other chemicals purchased by the University. An estimated 80% of the cleaning products used on campus are environmentally friendly, with low or no VOC content.

The majority of campus spaces have energy automation systems which turns off lights and temperatures down during times when buildings, floors, or rooms are not in use. Duquesne University is in the process of introducing smart building infrastructure.

The unofficial policy of Duquesne University Facilities Department is to install low-flow and water efficient appliances throughout campus when products need to be replaced. This number will steadily increase until all water systems are high-efficiency.
