Name or title of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome:
Anthems for the Anthropocene
A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome that outlines how credit criteria are met and any positive measurable outcomes associated with the innovation:
Drexel Climate and Sustainability collaborates with various other Drexel departments and offices to direct Anthems for the Anthropocene, a fast-paced, annual climate change songwriting contest. Drexel University students are challenged to create, perform, and record an original song that conveys a message about climate change and inspires and empowers listeners. In 2022, twelve students participated in the two-week contest to write songs about the impacts of climate change and the importance of action. Songwriting and climate change information workshops are led by Drexel professors to allow participants to learn more about inspiring change through music. This initiative allows the urgency of climate action to be communicated through artistic expression, reaching the audience in a more personal way than hard data.
