A brief description of the sustainability-focused immersive program(s) offered by the institution:

The Work Placement (CAEP 0205) course at Douglas college is designed to provide students with learning difficulties or barriers to education and employment with on the job experience related to their career goals. This placement provides experience in two different work or training environments related to career/job choices. Students test their ideas, gather information and gain exposure to work sites. Students are expected to demonstrate and practice appropriate work habits.

Additionally, both the Introduction to Earth & Environmental Sciences (EAES 1207) and Research Skills in Science and Technology (SRES 2100) include a practical field methods study component that is a minimum of 1 week in length.

EAES 1207 and SRES 2100 Course Description:
Introduction to Environmental Science (EAES 1207) explores the natural environment and the dynamic biological, physical and chemical interactions that characterize it. The role of humans in altering the natural biogeochemical cycles will be explored through focused discussions of topics such as natural resource exploitation (forestry, agriculture, mining, oil & gas, alternative energies), pollution (waste management, soil and water contamination, atmospheric pollution and climate change), and land use changes (e.g., urbanization).

SRES 2100 Scientific Research Skills
Research Skills in Science and Technology provides students with an opportunity to pursue a specific research-project of interest within the disciplines of Science and Technology offered at the College. Students enrolled in this course will receive research training relevant to their project.
