Name or title of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome:
Bio-Digestor Project at the College Farm
A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome that outlines how credit criteria are met and any positive measurable outcomes associated with the innovation:
The bio-digestor project at the College Farm is a waste-to-energy project that converts cow manure (from 100-150 dairy cows) and food waste from the college into electricity. This project will generate enough energy to mitigate 100% of the farm’s electricity consumption, and then some, and is expected to reduce carbon emissions by more than 80 MTCO2e and electricity costs by more than $20,000 annually. The project has land, air and water environmental benefits and will provide learning and teaching opportunities for our students, faculty, and the local community. The college received over $1.3 million in grants and gifts to support the project.
