Does the institution host a food bank, pantry, or equivalent resource focused on alleviating food insecurity, hunger and poverty among students?:
Yes

A brief description of the food bank, pantry, or equivalent resource:
Students at Dickinson can experience both short-term and long-term periods of need, including homelessness and food insecurity. The college is committed to assisting those students as we are able.

Dickinson has been a long a foundational partner to a food bank serving all of Cumberland County, PA, that is housed in one of our campus-owned buildings. Not only do we provide space, heat, volunteers, and services to the organization but the organization in return helps our food-insecure students when college dining is not an option (meals are 100% provided during normal dining operations, as we are a residential college). Therefore, food insecurity among students is more of an issue during breaks and summer, when Project SHARE can provide the needed support for those students. If meal alignment doesn't match with Project SHARE, Dickinson Office of Student Life provides local grocery gift cards to student with food insecurity.

In October 2002 Project SHARE moved into a 10,000-square-foot warehouse owned by Dickinson and now occupies 23,000 square feet. It continues to pay Dickinson $1.00 per year for rent. Project SHARE provides healthy, soup-to-nuts meals to about 1,000 families once a month and also accommodates roughly 800 visits to its accompanying farm stand. Project SHARE works with community organizations like Salvation Army and Community CARES to help meet the needs of the local homeless population. Project SHARE relies on monetary and food donations from suppliers that include local grocery retailers as well as the Dickinson College Farm and benefits from fundraisers, including Empty Bowls, hosted at Dickinson.
