Sustainability Leadership Program
A brief description of the student educators program (1st program):
The Office of Sustainability's Sustainability Leadership Program is a co-curricular initiative. Over eighty students participate in one of seven dynamic group projects, from overseeing the Campus Farm, to managing our student-run thrift shop, to advocating for environmental policy. Twenty-one of the students are paid leaders who oversee the group projects, while two senior members serve as paid student directors. Each of the initiatives require an outreach component (must host at least one sustainability-related campus awareness event each semester) and receive specialized training from the Director and Assistant Director of Sustainability. Whether it's through our Move Out recycling initiative, composting programs, environmental educational outreach projects, campus farm produce consumed in the dining hall, reusable to-go containers in campus cafes, or the campus thrift store, sustainability projects are accessible and reach every student on DePauw's campus.
A brief description of the student educators program’s target audience (1st program):
The Sustainability Leadership Program primarily targets DePauw students (and even more specifically, freshman and sophomores).
All first year students are educated on cardboard recycling during Move-In, made aware of reusable to-go containers and their sustainability utility during orientation week, and visit the Center for Sustainability with their FY mentors. All first year students are required to live on campus and have a meal plan, so they are exposed to daily educational materials about local food, composting, and recycling prepared by students in the Sustainability Leadership Program in the dining hall and participate in Energy Wars and other events in their residence hall.
