A brief description of the methodology used to complete the course inventory :
The Environmental Fellows Program identifies and compiles a list of all course offerings for students involved with the program each semester. Only courses with 1/3 or more of the class with an environmental theme can be EFP-approved. The list is reviewed and revised by the Environmental Fellows Steering Committee before each semester.
This year, The University Sustainability Committee also distributed among faculty a Faculty Survey to capture data on other sustainability-inclusive courses offered within the last three years. Sustainability-focused courses were defined in the survey to include:
- Foundational courses with a primary and explicit focus on sustainability (e.g., Introduction to Sustainability).
- Courses with a primary and explicit focus on the application of sustainability within a field (e.g., Sustainable Agriculture).
- Courses with a primary and explicit focus on understanding or solving a major sustainability challenge (e.g., Climate Change Science).
Sustainability-inclusive courses were defined as primarily focused on topics other than sustainability, but:
- Incorporate a unit or module on sustainability or a sustainability challenge,
- Include one or more sustainability-focused activities, or
- Integrate sustainability issues and concepts throughout the course.
Data from both the EFP lists and the 2019-2020 faculty survey were compiled together into the Sustainability Course Inventory - Spring 2020 (attached below).

Each course was counted as a single course regardless of the number of offerings or sections
A brief description of how courses with multiple offerings or sections were counted:
Even if the course was taught by multiple professors or on an annual basis, we still only counted it as a single course within the 3 years.
