A brief description of the socially responsible investment option for retirement plans:
DePauw offers two socially responsible investment options for retirement plans.
The CREF Social Choice Account uses specific environmental, social and governance criteria, the evaluation process seeks out companies that are strong stewards of the environment; devoted to serving local communities and society in general; committed to high labor standards; dedicated to producing high-quality, safe products; and managed in an ethical manner. A company’s involvement in the alcohol, tobacco, gambling, firearms, military and nuclear power industries is also reviewed and integrated into the process. Because of the negative social and environmental consequences of these products and services, companies with substantial involvement are unlikely to be included in the account. Quantitative techniques are used to build a portfolio from the remaining universe of securities that replicates the risk and return profile of the benchmark as closely as possible.
Valic Socially Responsible Fund is managed by AIG Global Investment Group (AIGGIG),
is suitable for investors looking to participate in large-cap equities, while incorporating their social and environmental standards into their portfolios.
