Does the institution collaborate with other colleges and universities to support and help build the campus sustainability community?:
Yes

A brief summary of papers, guides, presentations, and other resources the institution has developed to share their sustainability experience with other institutions:

Illinois Campus Compact:

The Illinois Campus Compact is housed at DePaul University.
Illinois Campus Compact is a coalition of colleges and universities that bond together to actively engage presidents, faculty, staff and students to promote a renewed vision of higher education – one that supports not only the civic development of students, but also the campus as an active and engaged member of its community. Campus Compact member presidents are joined together in their commitment to the development of personal and social responsibility as integral to the educational mission of their campuses. Currently Illinois Campus Compact has 43 member campuses. Illinois members are part of national Campus Compact, a coalition of nearly 1,100 college and university presidents, representing some 6 million students.

Campus Compact is a leader in building civic engagement into campus and academic life. Illinois Campus Compact is a state office of the national organization and our membership unites public, private, two-and four-year institutions across the spectrum of higher education.

1) DePaul University's Campus Recreation Joint Initiative:
From 2008-2010, representatives from DePaul University's Campus Recreation, University of Illinois at Chicago, University of Chicago, Northwestern University and Loyola University participated in a joint project with the City of Chicago and the Active Transportation Alliance to share information about initiatives and to generate ideas about future projects on sustainable methods of transportation.

DePaul's Campus Recreation hosted campus activities and events to support alternative methods of transportation, including an Alternative Transportation Fair, a Bike to Work Week, Bike Maintenance Workshop, and a Transportation Survey.

2) National Faith, Justice, and Civic Learning Conference:
The National Faith, Justice, and Civic Learning (NFJCL) Conference advances the understanding that our teaching, learning, scholarship, and service are enriched when we integrate the often fragmented dimensions of our institutions and greater society.

The NFJCL Conference collaborates with its partners in order to disseminate research findings on the intersecting areas of faith, justice, social responsibility, and civic or service-learning; share faith perspectives on ideas and practices of justice and social and civic responsibility; focus on justice and its relation to civic and service-learning, and/or a faith perspective; discuss the practice of service-learning and its impact on faith and vocation at both secular and faith-based education institutions; explore the role of reflection, in particular, in connecting faith, service and learning; share research and practice of interfaith dialogue and cooperation in higher education.

The NFJCL Conference is made possible by the collaborations with the following organizations: DePaul University's Division of Student Affairs, Interfaith Youth Core, Illinois Campus Compact, Indiana Campus Compact, Michigan Campus Compact, and representatives from Calvin College, Center for Social Concerns at the University of Notre Dame, North Central College, Azusa Pacific University, Trinity Christian College, Messiah College, Dominican University, and St. Mary's College of California.

3) DePaul University's Student Government Association's Environmental Concerns Committee (ECC) Membership with Illinois Student Environmental Coalition (ISEC):

As a member of the ISEC, DePaul University's Environmental Concerns Committee (ECC) hosted an event for ISEC members to discuss the feasibility of instituting University Green Fees in order to advance sustainable initiatives within members' home institutions.

Members of DePaul's ECC attended a meeting with former Illinois Senator Roland Burris at the Illinois Capitol
with various ISEC members. At the meeting, ECC & ISEC members presented the former senator with postcards signed by Illinois college students to advance sustainable initiatives in Illinois.

The ISEC serves as a network and provides a structure for students on Illinois college campuses in order to "heighten environmental awareness, hone their organizing skills, and create a pipeline to work in the environmental field after graduation. The coalition currently consists of 47 student organizations representing 41 colleges and universities. We are the only organization working to serve college campuses on a state and local level. The coalition maintains communication with over 1600 students through regular updates and newsletters on the ISEC Listserv. ISEC is incubated within a regional advocacy organization, the Environmental Law & Policy Center (www.elpc.org), and plans to grow into an independent entity driven by the students who make up the coalition.

ISEC seeks to harness the energy of the coalition to promote forward-looking environmental policies on global warming and other important issues of our time. In order to take effective action on these issues, students must be trained in leadership and organizing skills. ISEC offers students opportunities to learn these skills through presentations and workshops at our annual conference and through direct involvement with seasoned policy staff at major environmental organizations in Illinois. The structure of the organization enables students to put their emerging knowledge to practice. ISEC also assists students to learn about career paths in the environmental field and identify potential organizations for internships and/or employment. Our coalition seeks to ensure that the skills learned during a student’s involvement with ISEC result in long-term engagement on environmental issues."
Please refer to the ISEC website for further information on the coalition.

The ISEC network consists of various committees, student organizations, and initiatives at the following Illinois colleges:
Augustana College, Aurora University, Benedictine University, Black Hawk Community College, Bradley University, Carl Sandburg College, College of Lake County, College of Dupage, Columbia College, Concordia University, DePaul University, Dominican University, Eastern Illinois University, Elmhurst College, Highland Community College, Illinois Central College, Illinois College, Illinois State University, Illinois Wesleyan University, John A. 4)Eden Place STEM Service Learning Grant
This project, led by Barb Willard, associate professor at DePaul, is a collaboration between Eden Place Nature Center, DePaul and Chicago State University. Community members, students, and faculty organize the community to help create food security and access in an impoverished Chicago neighborhood.

Participants practice the basics of urban agriculture while working at Eden Urban Farms – a year-round farm located in a food desert (impoverished areas where residents have limited access to nutritious sources of fresh produce).
