Name or title of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome:
Denison Red Thread Program

A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome that outlines how credit criteria are met and any positive measurable outcomes associated with the innovation:
Denison established Red Thread Grants through the support of generous alumni recognizing that additional costs and emergencies outside of standard tuition and fees occur. These grants are dedicated to two purposes: 1) supporting student involvement in various on-campus experiences and 2) providing financial support in times of hardship for currently enrolled students. This “red thread” of support from alumni to current students reflects the gratitude of alumni who valued their Denison experience and want current students to be able to maximize their experience and potential.

Examples of expenses that may be supported with a Red Thread Grant are:
Campus Engagement and Co-Curricular Expenses; Club dues; fees and uniforms

Transportation related to Campus Engagement and Co-Curricular Expenses

Tickets to CLIC sponsored events in Columbus

Other fees associated with Denison student organizations

Emergency and Hardship Expenses: Medical, dental and vision expenses not covered by insurance; Clothing such as winter coat, boots, etc.; Transportation needs associated with unanticipated travel due to immediate family/home emergencies (Please note this does not include travel to or from school for breaks)

NOT INCLUDED: Requests for assistance with books or course fees should be directed to the Financial Aid office. Grants are not available for fraternity or sorority dues or expenses, passport or visa fees, phone bills or computer repair, purchase or replacement. Funding for food needs is not included.

Red Thread Grants are need-based and designed to support students from low-income or middle-income backgrounds. The maximum award is $300 per academic year. The grants are designed to provide needed support for students experiencing hardship or extraordinary circumstances.
