Sustainability-focused research at Denison University expands our understanding of the relationships between humans and their environment, explores how human interactions (both with each other and the planet) affect natural systems, or pursues solutions that allow humans and nature to productively coexist. This research is often interdisciplinary, combining findings from all areas of the natural and social sciences with insights from social and cultural perspectives to aid in achieving, and maintaining conditions that mutually sustain human societies and natural systems.

A brief description of the methodology the institution followed to complete the inventory:
The Office of Sustainability sent a survey to all members of the teaching faculty asking them to report on their current research and whether it fits within the adopted definition for sustainability research. Members of the Sustainability Committee then reviewed these surveys and cross-checked responses to ensure that any research listed, does indeed meet the criteria for sustainability research.
