Yes

A brief description of the sustainability-focused immersive program(s) offered by the institution:

In response to De La Salle Lipa’s Strategic Direction on Driving Social Innovation in Quality Education, “Community-based Action Project addressing Strategically-Themed learning Objectives through Networked Environments” also known as CAPSTONE Initiatives is conceptualized and implemented to address real-world problems with real-world solutions.

It is embedded in the curriculum across disciplines to promote a platform for a new and innovative way of learning environment, engagement and experience as defined in the (1) Learning Together and by Association (collaboration), (2) Learning through Engagement (communication), (3) Learning by Design (creativity), and (4) Learning with Social Impact (critical thinking).

A. IS

In the Integrated School, CAPSTONE researches are conducted by Senior High School learners in partnership with target communities to address various social issues such as but not limited to waste management, air and climate, campus engagement, public engagement and well-being and work.

B. College

NSTPtwo is a course designed for CAPSTONE Service Learning (CSL) to realize the aims of Community Immersion. It requires the students to carry out or implement community involvement projects and activities they had identified during their NSTPone, and is considered an important component in the accomplishment of the institutional Community Action-based Projects Addressing Strategically Themed Learning Objectives through Networked Environments (CAPSTONE) in college. In NSTP students will be required to identify needs in the community where they will propose to work with, and in the process learn the necessary skills.

In SY 2022-2023, 92 project proposals  were successfully implemented by 31 NSTPtwo sections. The following school year, 2023-2024, 26 NSTP sections deployed to an equal number of partner communities. Each class, divided into two to four groups, carried out project proposals designed to meet the specific needs identified during their community needs assessment and project identification phase in NSTP.

NSTP’s HOPE initiative program

  • This is a three year development program which  aims to adopt communities and empower different stakeholders towards integrated socio-economic development which focuses on health, occupation, poverty reduction (entrepreneurship) and education. This program will realize the aim of the National Service Training Program (NSTP) Area to conceptualize and have a sustainable development project by engaging diverse stakeholders and becoming champions of social inclusion through integrated development programs in vulnerable communities.

  • The chosen partner communities for this program are the three (3) barangays of Mataasnakahoy, Batangas, Philippines, specifically the lakeshore communities of Lumanglipa, Nangkaan and Kinalaglagan. Mataasnakahoy is a 4th class municipality with minimal financial resources to aid its residents’ needs. The residents of these lakeshore communities seasonally rely on Taal Lake for their income and they are more vulnerable to natural and socio-economic shocks.

  • This program includes community needs assessment, asset mapping, community organizing,  project formulation and implementation. Projects will include skills training and seminars to fisherfolks and community members. This program will also help the community/fisherfolks in establishing their own cooperative to fully empower the community.

  • Lasallian partners and students will be engaged in various activities and projects to be offered in the community.
