A list or brief description of significant on-site contractors:

Cleaning contracts are by far the largest "outside" payments and all employees of the contractor that wins a public tender process must be paid a living wage in Quebec. All other on-site contractors ( example HVAC) receive a living wage + benefits.

The minimum total compensation (pay) provided to Dawson's lowest pay grade (regular employee – labourer) is:

  • Classification - Aide Metiers (Trades Helper)
    • As of April 1, 2024 - $23.52/hour
    • Benefits - $2.94  - At Dawson, we normally we use 12.5% which includes insurance. There is no employer portion on pension for us. 
    • TOTAL = $23.52 + $2.94 = $26.46/hour

Based on union agreements within the college, all employees make more than the living wage. Cleaning contractors, one of the largest external company costs also receive Living Wages as part of the public tendering process in Montreal.

Hired students have their job responsibilities evaluated by HR staff and are paid union rates equivalent to support staff with that skill level.
*During COVID, no Dawson employee was laid off because of the college "shutdown" and all recieved above Living Wage hourly rates.
