A brief description of programs, policies, infrastructure investments, outreach efforts, and/or other factors that contributed to the diversion rate for construction and demolition waste:

Overview:

As per Quebec construction regulations, construction policies recycling of wood, metal and concrete from construction waste is mandatory. In the Dawson document for construction contracts titled Conditions General, it states that these regulations must be adopted:

The Contractor must obtain all permits, except the municipal construction permit,
licenses, patents and certificates necessary for the execution of the work, respect and ensure
compliance with federal, provincial and municipal laws and regulations, ordinances,
codes, decrees and collective agreements affecting construction or labor and
provide, upon request from the designated professional or the Owner, proof of their
compliance. ref.: p6/37

Internal work that needs containers for waste removal: An Environmental Technician photographs the waste materials and records weights that are supplied by the waste removal firm.

For internal construction (very small single room renovations), all metal and wires are recycled and furniture that is still possible to use is stored on campus or immediately reused.

The tonnage data is based on work done in 2023-24, with large construction container weights collected from contractors.

Concrete test cylinders manufactured by students from the Civil Engineering Program are collected every semester and reused as landscaping walls and garden borders. This weight is added to the reuse totals.

Total Tonnage was confirmed with the Director of Facilities.
