Does the institution offer at least one immersive, sustainability-focused educational study program that is one week or more in length?:
Yes
A brief description of the sustainability-focused immersive program(s) offered by the institution, including how each program addresses the social, economic, and environmental dimensions of sustainability:
1) North-South Studies Profile (Social Science Program)
Annual field trip to Nicaragua or Cuba: The North-South Studies Profile is designed for students interested in exploring the living and working conditions of the developing world. This profile is unique in that students can choose to participate in a field trip to a developing country, usually in Central America. During the trip, students live with a host family, attend conferences, and participate in community sustainability projects.
2) Environmental Studies Science (Science Program) and/or Community Recreation & leadership Training (Social Science)
Both programs welcome interns through partnerships with Mexican educational institutions.
Students from the Environmental Science profile and/or the Community Recreation and Leadership Program visit Mexico for a six week Sustainable Campuses internship. The students spend
six weeks at two partner schools: the Prepatoria Comunitaria de Tres Marías
(UAEM) and the Universidad Politécnica del Estado de Morelos. The students
work to advance sustainability projects within each school and community
and participate in and provide workshops in each location.
Other courses:
Science: Ecology & Culture trip to Costa Rica (yearly)
The Costa Rica Ecology trip is an annual course that takes students into the various ecosystems of Costa Rica where they are involved in field studies in biodiversity, conservation and sustainable agriculture and understanding the complex content of culture and local economies.
