Dallas College offers a number of wellness and assistance programs for students and employees. Student programs are different than employee programs and noted as follows.

For Students:
Counseling Services - Virtual and Face2Face confidential individual counseling for students experiencing challenges that are impacting their functioning and quality of life. Licensed mental health professionals including Licensed Professional Counselors, Licensed Clinical Social Workers, and Licensed Master Social Workers provide:
Crisis intervention, trauma, academic distress, depression, anxiety, family distress, substance use, hostility, etc.
Psychoeducational workshops
Prevention and awareness programming for mental health wellbeing, suicide, interpersonal violence, dating violence, domestic violence, sexual assault, topics specific to BIPOC.
Referrals to community resources for continuity of care

Health Services - promotes health, wellness and preventive care for students and staff. Registered nurses provide services including:
First aid for accidents, injuries, and illnesses
Health information and brochures
Over the counter (nonprescription) medicines such as Tylenol, aspirin, and antacids
Referral information for community health services
Selected health education and screening programs
Confidential health counseling
Health and well-being presentations and events

Connections Program - supports students with outside services that can help meet financial challenges like food, clothing, child-care, rental and utility assistance, medical clinic referrals and/or other school needs(books, supplies). Community agency partners can also help with family advocacy concerns. Connections case managers are trained to help with:
SNAP and TANF applications for food insecurity
Rental Assistance Housing Program
Childcare

Dallas College also offers access to food pantries, emergency aid and other social service agencies through the My Community Services partnership.
Mental Health Wellbeing Apps and Peer-to-Peer Support via Technology - 24/7 Support
TAO Connect - TAO (Therapy Assistance Online) is an online tool with more than 150 brief, interactive sessions that cover topics like mental health, wellness and substance abuse.
7 Cups - Peer to Peer Support App - with trained active listeners, bilingual (over 140 languages) - to launch on 4/15/21

For Employees:
Dallas College Employee Assistance Program (EAP) with Alliance Workforce Partners (AWP) program is offered at no cost to employees and their families in the form of short-term counseling, legal and financial consultations, and convenient web-based services. In addition, an EAP can provide referrals and resources on a number of work/life topics including but not limited to child and elder care, health and well-being, and work and personal-related issues. https://www.awpnow.com/main

Dallas College offers all full-time employees an option to participate in the Active Wellness Program. With supervisor approval, each full-time employee participant is allowed 30 minutes per day and up to 1.5 hours per week during regular work hours.

Definitions
"Cigarette" means a roll for smoking that is made of tobacco or tobacco mixed with another ingredient and wrapped or covered with a material other than tobacco and that is not a cigar. Health and Safety Code 161.081(1); Tax Code 154.001

"E-cigarette" means an electronic cigarette or any other device that simulates smoking by using a mechanical heating element, battery, or electronic circuit to deliver nicotine or other substances to the individual inhaling from the device. The term does not include a prescription medical device unrelated to the cessation of smoking.
The term includes:
1. A device described by this definition regardless of whether the device is manufactured, distributed, or sold as an e-cigarette, e-cigar, or e-pipe or under another product name or description; and
2. A component, part, or accessory for the device, regardless of whether the component, part, or accessory is sold separately from the device.

Tobacco Product
"Tobacco product" means:
1. A cigar;
2. Smoking tobacco, including granulated, plug-cut, crimp-cut, ready-rubbed, and any form of tobacco suitable for smoking in a pipe or as a cigarette;
3. Chewing tobacco, including Cavendish, Twist, plug, scrap, and any kind of tobacco suitable for chewing;
4. Snuff or other preparations of pulverized tobacco; or
5. An article or product that is made of tobacco or a tobacco substitute and that is not a cigarette.

Possession and Use Prohibited
Unless subject to an exception under law, an individual who is younger than 21 years of age commits an offense if the individual:
1. Possesses, purchases, consumes, or accepts a cigarette, e- cigarette, or tobacco product; or
2. Falsely represents himself or herself to be 21 years of age or older by displaying proof of age that is false, fraudulent, or not actually proof of the individual's own age in order to obtain possession of, purchase, or receive a cigarette, e-cigarette, or tobacco product.

Regulation Prohibited
A political subdivision may not adopt or enforce an ordinance or requirement relating to the lawful age to sell, distribute, or use cigarettes, e-cigarettes, or tobacco products that is more stringent than a requirement prescribed by Health and Safety Code Chapter 161, Subchapter H. Health and Safety Code 161.089
