As a new single accredited organization, Dallas College is planning to launch a new sustainability committee. Previously, the Sustainability Team was a district-wide Council sponsored by the Executive Vice Chancellor with sustainability staff representatives from each independently accredited college to build consensus toward district-wide goals.
In 2018-2019, each independent college campus had a Sustainability Committee with staff, faculty and student representation. Some committees were sponsored by the President while other committees were sponsored by the Vice President of Business Services or the Vice President of Academic Affairs.

The new Dallas College sustainability committee will include a diverse and broad representation of student, faculty and staff of departments that are paramount to achieving the United Nations 17 Sustainable Development Goals and goals outlined in the upcoming Resilience and Climate Action Plan (RCAP).

The Dallas College Office of Sustainability is part of the new Office of Social Responsibility and Inclusion. The department has five full time employees, three part-time student employees, and two shared administrative assistants dedicated to supporting sustainability. The department leads and oversees sustainability areas of: Education; Operations; and Outreach and Engagement.

Dallas College Office of Sustainability has made the following accomplishments in the last three years:
- Achieved 100% Renewable Energy Purchasing in 2021
- Participated in the EDF Climate Corps Fellows Program in 2019, 2021
- Established 10 Steps to Net Zero Energy Goals
- Completed our first AASHE STARS Self-Assessment and established STARS reporting guidelines and processes
- Achieved recognition as Tree Higher Education Campus USA at six Campuses
- Participated in RecycleMania Campus Race to Zero Waste
- Hosted the 10th Annual Sustainability Summit in 2020
- Recognized by GreenSourceDFW Awards
- Launched the Sustainable U Education Series
- Launched the Reframing the Curriculum: Design for Social Justice and Sustainability facutly training initiative
- Sponsored local sustainability education events such as the EarthX Expo, which reached approximately 150,000 attendees and the 2020 virtual DFW Solar Tour
