A brief description of the sustainable operations and maintenance policy/program and/or O+M rating system(s) used:

Dallas College aspires to achieve Net Zero Energy use at all its facilities by 2050. Net zero energy buildings are powered by renewable energy that is generated onsite. According to the Department of Energy, “a zero-energy building produces enough renewable energy to meet its own annual energy consumption requirements, thereby reducing the use of nonrenewable energy in the building sector.” Dallas College framework to Net Zero includes 10 steps for Existing Buildings and 10 steps for New Buildings. https://www.dallascollege.edu/about/sustainability/resources/pages/ten-steps-net-zero.aspx

Dallas College has created a checklist of Facilities Sustainability Best Practices in areas of Energy Efficiency, Water Conservation, Roofs, Energy Star certified Purchasing, Recycling, Building Controls, and Sustainability Signage. https://www.dcccd.edu/about/sustainability/resources/pages/best-practices.aspx

All new Dallas College building design and construction follows a minimum standard of 2015 International Energy Conservation Code (IECC).

The 2019 Dallas College Bond Program Phase 1 Projects follow a multi-attribute sustainability framework across 9 categories that references the USGBC-LEED scorecard for new construction. Dallas College follows these 9 areas for existing building maintenance and upgrades where applicable:
(1) Building Orientation to be Optimized based on Local Sun Paths and Shade Optimization with Landscaping
(2) Engaging Locally/Regionally Sourced Vendors/Suppliers
(3) Use of Building Material with Post-Consumer Recycled Content
(4) Utilization of Low-Flow Plumbing Fixtures
(5) Selected Products and Colors for Exterior Hardscape to reduce Heat Island Effect
(6) Design to Provide Access to Quality Transit Systems
(7) Design to Promote Micro-Mobility
(8) Passive/Active Daylight Strategies in Occupied Spaces
(9) LED Lighting in Design
