A brief description of the institution’s program to support employee volunteering:

Dallas College offers several volunteer opportunities for employees during regular work hours and the organizations are listed in the documentation for this credit. Dallas College is in the process of developing an annual Social Responsibility Day that allows us to recognize and honor all cultures along with the ethnic and social aspects that make them unique and as an opportunity for all employees to volunteer.

In 2020, Dallas College offered employees a day off on Juneteenth for participating in volunteer opportunities in the community or participating in self-study to reflect on the importantance of the day that has recently become a Federal Holiday.

The majority of employee volunteer opportunities in the community are sponsored by the College in conjunction with a local non-profit. Employees receive compensation from the College for their volunteer work.

Many Dallas College executives serve on community advisory boards and chamber of commerce committees, and their leadership service contributes to those organizations' mission, values and programs.

Many employees volunteer to help staff the North Texas Food Bank Mobile Food Truck or help staff the annual graduation ceremony, and are compensated for their leadership service that does not or may not directly relate to their job duties.

Employees volunteer to participate in the annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service. Many employees choose to participate in the Dallas MLK Day Parade with student organizations or college departments that have entered decorative floats in the parade.

Employees volunteer for Campus Community Gardens and Pollinator Gardens with co-curricular education programs and student clubs and organizations.

Employees volunteer with local history and heritage museums with co-curricular education programs and student clubs and organizations, such as the African American Museum of Dallas, Dallas Holocaust and Human Rights Museum, Crow Museum of Asian Art, and Latino Cultural Center.
