President’s Advisory Council on Sustainability: The President’s Advisory Council on Sustainability (PACS) provides a forum for students, faculty, administration, and alumni to provide advice on campus sustainability programs and policies.
Key organizations that regularly report on their activities to the Council include the Office of Sustainability, the College of Sustainability, and the Student Union Sustainability Office. The Agricultural Campus has a Sustainability Committee that reports to the PACS. There are sub-committees of the PACS that focus on a topic during a certain period.

The Dalhousie Office of Sustainability focuses on supporting solutions that create positive social, ecological and economic change in university operations. The Office works to incorporate sustainability concepts and criteria into all major planning, assessment, policy, reporting and communications products and procedures, as well as to engage student, staff, and faculty in sustainable living and operations. The Office works with many campus and community partners to achieve its objectives.

The President’s Advisory Council on Sustainability (PACS) provides a forum for students, faculty, administration, and community members to provide advice on campus sustainability programs and policies. Key organizations that regularly report on their activities to the Council include the Office of Sustainability, the College of Sustainability, and the Student Union Sustainability Office. The Council meets quarterly to review plans and policies, coordinate events, and joint initiatives including joint lectures such as the Ten Years of Change.
Dalhousie Office of Sustainability
The Dalhousie Office of Sustainability works to incorporate sustainability concepts and criteria into policy and planning, building and retrofit projects, and operations. The Office works with many campus and community partners to achieve its objectives.

The Executive Director is responsible for developing, implementing, and communicating operational sustainability programs and utility savings projects on all campuses. The position leads the Office of Sustainability efforts and is guided by the University strategic and sustainability plans and goals. The Executive Director reports to the Vice-President Finance and Administration.

The sustainability Manager will provide management support and continuity to existing and new sustainability programs and communication efforts, specifically around food, waste, procurement and campus and community engagement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:

Responsible for the overall development, direction, and administration of a range of existing and new programs targeted at both the Dalhousie and external community.

Manage the day-to-day operation of the office’s programming including personnel, allocation of resources, information, logistics, main contact for event/programs.

Conduct and facilitate needs assessments, focus groups, etc. to gauge interest/demand for sustainability programs. As a Subject Matter Expert, make recommendations for strengthening, developing, re-aligning and/or terminating current offerings in conjunction with the Executive Director.

Hire, train and supervise students and casual staff. Identify, recruit and coordinate the hiring of instructors/facilitators for programs and/or events.

Create and modify the annual communications plan for the Office of Sustainability regarding events, programs and programming.

Effectively use a variety of social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn to increase the visibility of programs/events and communicate with current and potential students.

The Energy Manager (Engineer) will be responsible for identifying energy efficiency measures and opportunities for Dalhousie University and help to prepare the business case for approval. Reporting to both the Field Engineering Manager at EfficiencyOne and an organizational lead at Dalhousie University, the Energy Manager will provide technical support related to energy management at Dalhousie University campuses in Nova Scotia as well as work with third-party engineering firms, and contractors to direct energy management activities within the university. In doing so the Energy Manager will need to effectively be working with many stakeholders such as contractors, consultants, and staff. The Energy Manager will be accountable for contributing to energy planning and assisting with the implementation of energy projects & influencing policy. Furthermore, the Energy Manager will support business case development for projects.
