A brief description of the institution’s sustainability projects fund:

For the past number of years the Office of Sustainability develops sustainability projects that are funded through Dalhousie’s Utility Savings Business Case Model. The Office  annually submits utility business cases where utility savings/cost avoidance will pay back a project over a set period. When approved the projects are funded through the university's central funds and are paid back through utility savings/cost avoidance over a set period. This funding mechanism has allows the institutions to complete dozens of energy savings projects over the years contriubting both to utility cost savings and our energy/GHG emissions reduction goals.

A brief description of the multi-stakeholder decision-making process used to determine which projects receive funding through the sustainability projects fund:

Depending on the size of the projects, the Office of Sustainability works with the onsite Energy Manager,  Facilities and at times external consultants to develop project concepts, conduct feasitiblity studies and come up with costing and simple payback for viable sustainability/energy savings projects. The projects are then brought to senior management (Finance) to get funding approval. For large projects, approval is also needed from Capital Projects and Facilities Committee.
