A brief description of the employee educators program (1st program):
The Sustainable Event Certification recognizes campus community groups for planning events that minimize environmental impact. The program emphasizes reducing waste, water, and energy usage, while prioritizing inclusivity and accessibility through a Sustainable Events Checklist. Any meetings, conferences, or group gatherings held on Dalhousie’s campuses can apply for certification. The Office of Sustainability also offers training sessions on running sustainable events and is launching a Train-the-Trainer program in 2024 to amplify sustainability efforts.
Each event designates a sustainability officer responsible for attending a training session, viewing an asynchronous recording, or reviewing the program checklist to meet program requirements.
The certification is designed for continuous improvement, progressing from Bronze to Silver, Gold, and beyond, as sustainability officers work toward increasingly sustainable event practices.
The training program is also ongoing, supported by regular administrative guidance and staff support. Sustainability officers remain part of the sustainability community, receiving updates and attending additional sustainability-focused events.
