The Dalhousie Office of Sustainability, The College of Sustainability and the Dalhousie Student Union Office of Sustainability all have social media platforms that provides updates on sustainability initiatives on campus. 


Signage

Yes

A brief description of the signage that highlights sustainability features on campus:

Rotating LCD Screens on campus promote sustainability campaigns and events throughout campus. 

Our LEED certified buildings also feature green building signage on which all of the buildings green features are explained. Buildings where these signs can be found are the Wallace McCain Learning Commons, Steele Ocean Sciences Building, LeMarchant Place, Collaborative Health Education Building, Emera IDEA Building, Richard Murray Design Building and the Life Sciences Research Institute.  

 

   


Sustainability map or tour

Does the institution provide a sustainability walking map or tour?:
Yes

A brief description of the sustainability walking map or tour:

Campus tours take participants through our four campuses while describing our number of green buildings, which seek efficiencies in energy, water, and materials use, through better design and construction, more efficient operations, and proper materials re-use and disposal at the end of a building’s life cycle. Tours are adjusted for length and interest. 

Sustainability campus tours are offered through a number of ways: 

Individuals, non-profits, and classes have been conducting their own tours on campus using the map, a self-guided tour document, and videos to take independent walking tours 

The Campus Tours office provides regular tours of campus buildings. The Office of Sustainability provides campus tours staff with training, scripts, resources and maps for the incorporation of green building features in their regular tours. 

The Office of Sustainability provides green building tours for groups. Over the years this included tours for professional associations, classes, media, businesses, conferences, and others. For a guided tour contact the Office of Sustainability via email rethink@dal.ca. 


Green living guide 

Does the institution produce a guide for green living and/or incorporating sustainability into the residential experience?:
Yes

A brief description of the guide for green living and/or incorporating sustainability into the residential experience:

Resident students are provided with waste management guides in their residence rooms when they move in. Sustainability is also integrated into residence life programming, community standards and weekly floor meetings. The residence handbook (community living guide) also contains information on green living in residence, including proper waste sorting procedures, tips and resources, and energy and water-saving tips.

The Dalhousie News and Today@Dal are the main university news source and they feature sustainability articles on a regular basis. 

Detailed descriptions of all green featured in all Dalhousie LEED certified buildings are also found on our website.
