A brief description of the carbon sinks, including vendor, project source, verification program and contract timeframes (as applicable):

We are currently investing our focus on energy related GHG reductions on campus, in the next number of years we will be investigating carbon offsets and renewable energy off campus

Performance year Baseline year
Adjusted net GHG emissions 76,884.60 Metric tons of CO2 equivalent 106,178 Metric tons of CO2 equivalent

Start and end dates of the performance year and baseline year (or three-year periods):
Performance year Baseline year
Start date April 1, 2019 April 1, 2009
End date March 31, 2020 March 31, 2010

A brief description of when and why the GHG emissions baseline was adopted:

The baseline year (2009-2010) is used in our University Sustainability Plan to compare progressive targets to for water, energy, GHGs. This year is when accurate data could be reliably accessed.

Figures needed to determine “Weighted Campus Users”:

Adjusted net Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions per unit of EUI-adjusted floor area, performance year:
0 MtCO2e per square meter

A brief description of the institution’s GHG emissions reduction initiatives:

In the 2019-20 fiscal year, a variety of projects were undertaken to reduce greenhouse gases and mitigate the impacts of climate change including:
• implementation of major energy and water efficiency projects for the LSC, LSRI, Killam Data Centre, and Dentistry buildings.
• working with FM planners and project managers/operators to build energy and water efficiency into operational and facilities renewal. Examples of implemented projects include air handling unit replacements with CO2/ and DCV controls, heat pump replacements with high efficiency units, high-efficiency capital construction projects (Arts Centre), and equipment set back schedules.
• re-commissioning phase 2 of a major building.
• LED campus-wide lighting upgrades at the Agricultural and Halifax campuses.
• implementation of bicycle parking.
• participation of 300 employees in the Employee Bus Program. Dal also has a student bus pass.

We also issued a new Climate Change Plan with policies in 2019. The university has also subscribed to the UN sustainable development goals.
