A brief description of how sustainability is included in new employee orientation (including how multiple dimensions of sustainability are addressed):
All new employees are offered a university sponsored employee orientation session coordinated by Human Resources Department. This is offered on a monthly basis. The Office of Sustainability has been a guest speaker at employee orientations along with five other departments. Recently the format has changed so that videos are shown about sustainability and the Office, the website is shown, and key programs are highlighted such as the employee bus pass. Sustainability based handouts are also made available and these employee orientations. Faculty have an additional orientation day in August. The Office of Sustainability provides material for this orientation day with documents such as a “ What Goes Where Guide”.
A Sustainability at Work orientation guideline is also provided. This document informs employees of the many habits and actions they can take towards sustainability at Dalhousie as well as some policies and programs they can follow.
