A brief description of the institution’s methodology for evaluating employee satisfaction and engagement:
The quantitative data for this study were collected using both a self-administered paper questionnaire, as well as an online survey. All Dalhousie employees were given the option to complete the survey online or on paper. Prior to the distribution of the survey kit, employees were informed about the study and its objectives, and were asked for their co-operation. After employees completed a paper survey questionnaire, it was placed in a sealed, addressed envelope and mailed directly to Corporate Research Associates via Canada Post. A total of 3,276 survey invitations were distributed, while the actual number of completed online and paper surveys returned to CRA was 1,857, resulting in an overall response rate of 57 percent Surveys were received between April 2 and May 6, 2013. The final tally revealed 504 completed Faculty surveys, from a total of 1,240 useable Faculty invitations. The final Faculty response rate stood at 41 percent. The final tally revealed 1,353 completed Staff surveys, from a total of 2,036 useable Staff invitations. The final Staff response rate stood at 66 percent. The survey is conducted every two years and data posted online.
