A brief description of the institution’s programs that help increase the diversity of higher education faculty:
Yes, through the workforce analysis that is conducted annually, representation of faculty is closely monitored across faculties and at all stages of employment at Dalhousie, from recruitment, to promotion and tenure, and termination. One initiative that resulted directly from this analysis is the Dalhousie Diversity Faculty Award. This award program was introduced in 2011 and is designed to increase representation of historically under-represented groups in academia. The award is intended to act as an incentive for faculty hiring from the three under-represented groups (faculty from Black African descent, aboriginal, and persons with a disability) by paying up to half of salary for three to five years, up to a maximum of $100,000 per year. http://www.dal.ca/dept/dalrespect/human_rights_and_equity/employment_equity/hiring_for_diversity.html
