A brief description of the cultural competence trainings and activities:
The following workshop is offered to the university community, individual departments and through Supervisory training on a regular basis. Resident Assistants and Student Orientation leaders also have targeted training prior to September and we also target large first year and other classes early in the year if possible. Creating a More Inclusive and Respectful Working & Learning Environment We all have a shared responsibility to establish and maintain a climate of respect in the workplace. This session is intended to raise awareness about the importance of a welcoming, inclusive and respectful environment for all. It also offers a forum for generating ideas for achieving inclusiveness, understanding and respect while acknowledging, valuing and accommodating differences through scenarios and group discussion. This session focuses on the roles and responsibilities of staff, managers, faculty members and students in the creation of a harassment-free working and learning environment. It is important for students to understand these concepts while they participate on campus and as future employers in the community. The Centre for Learning and Teaching also offers a number of workshops including: "Making Connections with Culturally Different Students" & Restructuring the University Community for Inclusion" http://learningandteaching.dal.ca
