A brief description of the program:
"Compressed work week" refers to a work week which is condensed to fewer than the usual five days. A typical example is the compression of 10 days' work to 9 days, and the employee taking the 10th day off from work. Advantages of the compressed work week include additional daily hours of service available to clients, and employees having fewer work days.
Policy:
For employees in the NSGEU unit, the compressed work week must be an arrangement made by mutual agreement between the parties, since it involves accumulation of additional hours per work day. (When agreed to, such arrangements would not violate the overtime provision of applicable collective agreements.)
Compressed work schedules must take into account the operational requirements of the department and the delivery of service to clients.
