Creighton Fossil Fuel Divestment Commitment

A brief description of the third program/initiative/accomplishment:
Beginning in September 2020, Creighton University committed to taking significant steps towards divesting from fossil fuel investments as part of its modified investment policy approved by the Board of Trustees. During the following five years, the university has taken steps to withdraw from public securities of fossil fuel companies and exit from private fossil fuel investments within a decade. The goal is to shift investments towards renewable energy and energy efficiency, all while maintaining the financial strength of the endowment. Creighton's commitment to sustainability includes voting in favor of carbon-reduction resolutions and partnering with organizations focused on environmental issues. The university's dedication to sustainability has been a priority, and these actions reflect its ongoing efforts to address climate change and care for the common home. This initiative also resonates with global calls for ethical commitments to avoid supporting companies harming the environment, as endorsed by the Vatican.
