Local Community Orientations
A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome that outlines how credit criteria are met and any positive measurable outcomes associated with the innovation:
Community Orientations are an on and off campus experience into Omaha where we take 6 hours to learn more about our local community, a social justice issue, Catholic Social Teaching and our Jesuit mission. These are considered a valuable opportunity for faculty and staff professional development and growth of Creighton’s mission.

Descriptions of each:
Climate Change: Faith, Hope and Action
Participants will hear from community members, such as Omaha Public Power District (OPPD) engineers to learn about local energy production and consumption. Lunch will be provided by a local chef at No More Empty Pots where we will hear from their director to learn about their work. We will close the day with further reflection upon their experiences. .

No More Empty Pots is a non-profit organization based in Omaha, Nebraska, dedicated to addressing food insecurity and promoting sustainability in the community. They have various programs and initiatives aimed at creating a more sustainable and equitable food system. One of their key goals is to reduce food waste and divert organic waste from landfills, which aligns with sustainability efforts. They work towards achieving this by promoting urban agriculture, providing education on food production and nutrition, and supporting local farmers and food entrepreneurs. Journey to Omaha: Exploring the Refugee Experience: Join us in learning more about the Jesuit commitment to accompany, serve and advocate for refugees. Omaha is home to refugees from around the world. We invite you to learn what the designation of ‘refugee’ means, the process to be considered for resettlement, the support community in Omaha and the many ways refugees are contributing to our city. Highlights will include: hearing from local area non-profits and eating at a locally owned restaurant.
