City Sprout Collaboration

A brief description of the student educators program (1st program):

Students collaborate with City Sprouts, an organization dedicated to community gardening and education. Together, they invite fellow students to learn about City Sprouts' mission and its connection to sustainability. City Sprouts, known for its community garden and educational efforts, provides a rich environment for students to explore and understand the importance of sustainability in a real-world context. Some of the sustainability principles linked to community gardening include resource conservation, biodiversity promotion, waste reduction through composting, local food production, educational opportunities, community engagement, water management, chemical-free practices, the use of seasonal and indigenous plants, and long-term planning. Through this initiative, students become educators, sharing the significance of City Sprouts' mission and these sustainability principles with their peers, fostering a deeper understanding of environmental stewardship within the community.

The target student audience for this program is diverse and includes individuals with a shared interest in sustainability, community engagement, and environmental stewardship. These students are curious, open-minded, and eager to learn about the practical applications of sustainability principles in a real-world context. They are motivated to make a positive impact on their community and the environment and are interested in exploring topics such as resource conservation, biodiversity, waste reduction, local food production, and more. These students are enthusiastic about hands-on learning experiences and are willing to become educators themselves, sharing their newfound knowledge with their peers. They value collaboration and are committed to fostering a deeper understanding of environmental sustainability within their community.

Community Reflection Education Weekly for Social justice (C.R.E.W)

A brief description of the student educators program (2nd program):

In academic year 2023, Schlegel Center for Social Justice (SCSJ) start this 6-week program that is commit to weekly formation, reflection, community building and learning together about environmental justice or migration justice. Students focus on the topics of environmental justice/ climate change or immigration, learn and reflect together, and participate in various service opportunities.

The C.R.E.W program provides an opportunity for students who have a deep concern for environmental issues like climate change or an interest in comprehending migration justice. Participants in this program are likely to be individuals who highly value hands-on learning and eagerly engage in one-time service opportunities that align with their dedication to fostering a fairer and more sustainable world. In essence, this initiative attracts individuals who possess not only strong academic interests but also a strong drive to positively impact both the environment and society.
