Through the Omaha Area Higher Education Alliance, Creighton collaborates with local colleges and universities to advocate for increases in renewable energy from our power company (Omaha Public Power District).

A brief description of how the institution engages in public policy advocacy for sustainability at the state/provincial/regional level, including the issues, legislation, and ordinances for or against which the institution has advocated:

With The Schlegel Center for Service and Justice, students, faculty and staff advocate for environmental justice at a state level by meeting with state senators, such as Sue Crawford and Tony Vargas. These meetings include asks for senators to look at legislative items pertaining to issues such as: increasing renewable energy production and use in Nebraska, reducing greenhouse gas emissions in our state, developing a statewide climate action plan, updating building codes to become more energy efficient, and creating laws that promote more sustainable water management.

Yes

Creighton's current president, Fr. Hendrickson, consistently signs letters urging federal-level support of policies that encourage U.S. participation in addressing global climate change. With The Schlegel Center for Service and Justice, students, faculty and staff advocate for environmental justice at a national level by following The Catholic Climate Covenant and Catholic Relief Service guidelines to make federal asks such as “support the bipartisan House Climate Solutions Caucus” and to “Tell Congress to Fund Climate Change Finance."
