A brief description of programs, policies, infrastructure investments, outreach efforts, and/or other factors that contributed to the diversion rate for construction and demolition waste:
Cornell University has a commitment to pursue LEED certification (Silver level minimum) for all new buildings and renovation projects exceeding $5M in value. Every project has a goal of 75% waste diversion with a minimum of 50%.

As such Cornell University has a commitment to meet LEED Materials and Resources credit guidelines. Current guidelines can be found at https://www.usgbc.org/leed/rating-systems/new-buildings

The data is collected by our Engineering and Projects Department for capital construction projects. They rely on the construction contractors to provide the data. The contractors are aware of goals and waste reporting requirements as part of meeting LEED requirements of all capital projects.
