Name or title of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome:
“Farm to School to You” Food Truck

A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome that outlines how credit criteria are met and any positive measurable outcomes associated with the innovation:

A team from Cornell Cooperative Extension helped the Buffalo Public Schools launch a food truck that provides free hot lunches made with local ingredients to families in need. The food truck is a literal and figurative vehicle to address persistent challenges in the farm-to-school program, which include forging a deeper connection to the classroom, providing a more effective means to engage the community, offering a solution to expand beyond just the school lunch program, and utilizing more locally grown and produced food. When BPS students return to in-person instruction, teachers and staff will provide educational opportunities linked to the district’s farm-to-school programming. For example, culinary arts students in Buffalo will develop farm-to-table menus, then serve locally sourced items from the food truck at Buffalo-area child and adult care program sites.
