In 2020, Cornell received $1.5 in funding from the National Science Foundation to continue implementation of the first state-wide Internet of Things public infrastructure. This statewide technology infrastructure will help close the technology gap in NY state by creating a network of smart devices that will enable internet coverage across the state. This includes remote rural areas with limited cellular connection. Smart devices include items such as home thermostats and energy meters that can be controlled from a distance, from a smartphone or other device.
