A brief description of when and why the workplace health and safety baseline was adopted (e.g. in sustainability plans and policies or in the context of other reporting obligations):
There was a management change in the Occupational Health, Safety and Injury Prevention (OHSIP) group in 2013. The January 1, 2014 – December 31, 2014 baseline year was selected because this is the first full year of incident data under the new OHSIP Management. The baseline and performance year timelines align with Department of Labor record keeping requirements.

The Occupational Health, Safety and Injury Prevention (OHSIP) team is committed to a safe and healthful workplace for each member of the Cornell community. Our team develops and implements comprehensive and sustainable occupational safety and health programs university-wide to provide our employee safe work procedures and resources to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. The OHSIP team are stewards of several university-wide initiatives and programs, such as: Our Occupational Safety Programs include; Confined Space, Contractor Safety, Crane and Hoist, Electrical Safety, Excavations, Fall Prevention, Hot Work / Welding, Injury & Illness Reporting, Lock/Tag/Verify, Mobile Equipment, Personal Protective Equipment, Winter Safety, and Hand & Power Tool Safety Programs. Our Occupational Health Programs include; Asbestos, Bloodborne Pathogens, Ergonomics, Hazard Communications, Hearing Conservation, Indoor Air Quality, Industrial Hygiene, Lead, Reproductive Health, Respiratory Protection, and Silica Programs. Other OHSIP initiatives include; Injury reduction, Safety & Health inspections/consultation, Safety & Health training, industrial hygiene sampling/survey, incident investigation, and campus event audits. We are leaders in promoting a safe learning, working and living environment for the University through the integration of programs and services, we provide to faculty, staff and students.
