Name or title of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome:
Income Based Community Supported Agriculture Program
A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome that outlines how credit criteria are met and any positive measurable outcomes associated with the innovation:
In partnership with FRESH New London, we contributed produce from our campus garden to a CSA program that provided fresh produce to local member families for a sliding scale price. There were 157 people enrolled in the CSA program, 2/3 of which were on the sliding scale payment plan for low-income families in New London. From June through October 2020, members received at least eight different produce items grown either in the FRESH gardens around New London or in the Connecticut College Sprout Garden.
Through the CSA program, we intend to integrate community gardens as shared spaces and core features within the landscape of New London. Furthermore, the program intends to make community members participants in their food system, rather than simply recipients of it, by making growing food accessible to all.
