A brief description of how sustainability is included prominently in new student orientation :
All incoming students go through an online pre-orientation before arriving on campus. This pre-orientation contains a module on sustainability and recycling. During on-campus orientation in the fall semester, a presentation on campus sustainability is offered to the entire incoming class including transfers. We also offer two sustainability focused events - one is a volunteer workday in our campus garden and the other is the Give 'N Go Yard Sale where students can purchase used items collected at the end of the previous year.
In Fall 2020, due to Covid restrictions on in-person events, the presentation on sustainability was offered as a campus sustainability tour via zoom. Students were shown a variety of sites on campus, like our geothermal well field, and had the opportunity to ask questions.
We have a very short spring transfer orientation program in January that does not specifically include sustainability. Approximately 12 students attend this spring orientation.
