A brief description of the methodology used to complete the course inventory :
The Office of Sustainability conducted a survey of courses by sending targeted letters to department heads listing the department's courses that previously met the sustainability criteria used for STARS reporting and additional courses that we felt might meet the definition of a sustainability course. Each letter described the College's definition of sustainability and included both the AASHE definitions of sustainability focused and sustainability inclusive as well as the UN Sustainability Goals. Courses included in the letter were then characterized by the department as either sustainability-focused, sustainability-inclusive or neither. We received responses from 24 of 36 departments and interdisciplinary programs that offer courses. Determinations about courses from departments that did not respond were made by the Office of Sustainability based on the course descriptions and how they had been characterized in a 2018 survey conducted of faculty. When departments included a list of relevant UN SDGs, they were indicated in the course inventory. The same survey was used to obtain data on sustainability learning outcomes and research. An example of the department survey is uploaded as a supporting document. At the college we have 31 departments and 5 interdisciplinary programs that offer courses. We included the total of 36 departments and programs for this analysis.
We counted each section of a course as a separate course (but not if it was multiple lab sections of course that met all together for class).
