We launched our first-ever Sustainability Action Plan in November 2020, at a very difficult time for our community. The plan includes 20-year vision as well as five-year goals, targets and strategies to guide us in our move towards Sustainable Food Systems, Zero Waste, Climate Action, Sustainability in Research, and Sustainability in Curriculum. The plan was launched following years of development and consultation with stakeholders throughout our community. Each year, we update our progress dashboard to keep our community informed on our collective efforts. We look forward to reflecting further on our progress, achievements, and lessons learned when the plan comes to an end in 2025.

Since Concordia committed to joining the decade of action and advancing the Sustainable Development Goals in 2020, we have performed a number of important exercises to situate ourselves in relation to the SDGs.
We launched a Voluntary University Review (VUR) process in 2021, with the aim of achieving the following:
- Build awareness of the SDGs at Concordia
- Assess the kinds and levels of activity with SDG linkages
- Foster collaborative efforts among faculty, students, staff to advance the SDGs
- Develop a strategy for engaging with the SDGs, and deepening and strengthening Concordia’s capacities for social impact
One important component of the VUR was the 17 Rooms exercise that we launched in 2022, conducting 17 individual brainstorming sessions about how to amplify the impact of Concordia’s efforts related to the SDGs.
The Voluntary Univerisity Review will be published in January 2025 and will guide a community discussion about situating important sustainability endeavours at Concordia in relation to each other and to our aim of achieving meaningful impact within our university and beyond.
